Q. How long has Carnival Land Amusements been in business?
A. We’ve been going strong since 1965.
Q. What geographic area do you serve?
A. We concentrate on south-east Queensland and northern New South Wales.
Q. Queues frazzle the crowd and the mood. What can we do?
A. You can never beat a line but you can keep it moving. Think about the number of people per ride. The Frisbee can entertain 40 riders at a time (480 riders per hour) vs a mechanical surfboard at 1 rider per time (12 riders per hour).
Q. What other things should we think about?
A. Access is often a first timers concern. Our bigger rides come on prime movers and trailers, the smaller ones in utes. Gateway entrances and overhanging trees may be a concern.
Power is another consideration. You’ll want the power supply to be sufficient for the entire fete – not just the amusement rides – and safe. Tripping on electric cords is not the ride anyone wants on fete day!
In your choice of rides, think about height restrictions. Many rides have a minimum height of 1m to 1.3m. Will that rule out many of your patrons?
Q. Do you offer sideshow alley entertainment?
A. We do but honestly, when it comes to school fetes, we believe that should be left where possible for the older students to organise and run. It’s a great way to involve kids in organised activities, teach them responsibility and have fun while they’re at it.
Q. What trends are you picking up on timing of fetes?
A. Friday evenings are becoming increasingly popular.
