Decorated Calico Bag

Make your own Christmas bags

Materials:

• Calico craft bag – 42cm x 37.5cm
• Red & white stripe flat fat quarter
• White & red spot flat fat quarter
• Dark red felt square
• 10cm white mini rickrack
• 35cm Vliesofix
• Red button
• Sewing machine
• Red & white sewing thread
• Hand needle
• Scissors
• Iron

Instructions:

Step 1

Cut a 35cm square from both the Vliesofix and the red & white stripe fabric.

Fuse Vliesofix to the wrong side of the fabric.

Draw a star onto the paper side of the Vliesofix and cut out.

Step 2

Iron a 20cm square of Vliesofix to the back of felt square.

Draw a star onto the paper side of the Vliesofix and cut out.

Step 3

Peel paper off the back of the red felt star, place it in the centre of red & white stripe star and fuse stars together using the iron.

Step 4

Fuse a 10cm square from Vliesofix onto the wrong side f red & white spot fabric.

Draw a star onto the paper side of the Vliesofix and cut out.

Remove backing paper, centre on red felt star and fuse stars together with the iron.

Step 5

Using contrasting thread topstitch around the edge of the red felt star and the red & white spot star 3mm from the edge.

Step 6

Thread rickrack through holes in button, tie in a knot at the front and using sewing thread hand sew to the centre of the red & white spot star.

Step 7

Iron calico bag.

Remove backing paper from red & white stripe fabric star, place on the front of the calico bag and fuse stars to bag with the iron.

Step 8

Open bag up and topstitch the striped star to the bag 3mm in from the star’s edge.
