Hand Painted Ornaments

Fabulous idea for the fete craft stall!

Materials:

  • assorted papier mâché decorations
  • Kaisercraft paint – red, white
  • Kaisercraft clear sealer
  • crystal glitter
  • red glitter
  • glitter glue – crystal, gold
  • beading wire – gold, red
  • white beaded trim
  • seed beads – red, white
  • red bugle beads
  • red rickrack
  • red trim
  • double-sided tape
  • paint brushes & palette
  • scissors
  • pliers

Instructions:

Step 1

Group 1
Paint the bauble one colour, either red or white. The baubles will require 2 coats of paint and one final coat of clear sealer, allow time to dry thoroughly between coats. Leave some baubles without further adornment or add a little detail by outlining the seams with some gold glitter glue or while sealer coat is still wet over bauble entirely with glitter to match paint colour or create some interesting bead and wire work to hang from the top.

Step 2

Group 2
Using both colours, red and white, paint the baubles alternating the colours on the panels. The baubles will require 2 coats of paint and one final coat of clear sealer, allow time to dry thoroughly between coats. When completely dry outline the seams with a little crystal glitter glue or leave plain and decorate with some beaded wire springs.

Step 3

Group 3
Paint the baubles using both colours, the top of the onion shape in white and the bottom in red. Divide the round bauble in half using double-sided tape but do not remove the backing, use this as a mask when painting to keep the colours separate. Alternate the colours if making more than one. The baubles will require 2 coats of paint and one final coat of clear sealer, allow time to dry thoroughly between coats. Remove the backing from the double-sided tape and adhere some beaded trim, then adhere red trim or rickrack to the white side. For the onion ornament create some coils using gold wire and hang more wire around the neck of the ornament, or use the gold glitter glue to recreate the same look.
